                                                                           Basic Recipe for Home-Made Cough Drops

Ingredients:
1/2 cup local raw honey
1/2 cup organic raw coconut oil
20 drops chosen blend of essential oils (doTerra ONLY)

Directions:
1.   Scoop coconut oil into a mixing bowl and beat with a hand or stand mixer until whipped.
2.   Add honey and continue to whip until the honey and oil are mixed.
3.   Add essential oils of choice. We recommend On Guard for immune support, Lemon for detoxification, and Peppermint to assist in supporting the respiratory system and airways.
4.   Pour mixture into small ice cube trays or candy molds.
5.   Freeze until they are hard; approximately twenty minutes.
6.   Pop cough drops out of molds and cover in Vitamin C powder for additional protection.
7.   Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Ready for healthy chocolate that satisfies? Yum!

Conventional chocolate is LOADED with cane sugar which has been known to create the inflammatory response in the body leading to a whole host of not so pleasant symptoms. But how can we go without chocolate?! Utilizing this recipe will take care of those "must have chocolate!" cravings without the guilt. One seriously satisfies instead of leaving you wanting more and more until the bag is empty or the bar gone...... 
Not to mention, this recipe is chock full of good nutrients including caprylic acid from coconut oil, antioxidants from raw cocoa powder, and protein from the almond butter! Use silicone molds to create cute designs for parties or add nuts and raisins to make turtle style creations. The options are truly endless! Delicious!  


Five-Ingredient Paleo Fudge RecipeIngredients
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup high quality cocoa powder
1/2 cup smooth almond or peanut butter
1/4 cup raw honey or maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla


Directions
First, melt the coconut oil. Then blend all ingredients together in a food processor or blender until smooth. Pour into paper-lined muffin tin cups or silicon muffin cups and fill half-inch full. Chill for 30 minutes or freeze for 10 minutes. When firm, remove. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer and enjoy! Mmm-mmm!

Become a Fat Burning Machine?!

Ever reached that plateau in weight loss?  No matter how much exercise or diet control those last few pounds just will not seem to go away? That weight loss plateau is due to the toxins stored in the adipose (fat) cells. Without proper, cellular level detoxification these adipose cells will hold onto these toxins tightly to protect the other organs from damage.
 
Adipose cells are essentially a large droplet of lipids which are meant to aide with cushioning, insulation, energy storage, hormone release, and toxin storage. Healthy levels of adipose cells are roughly 30-40% of our body weight, however over 65% of the U.S. population is above this percentage. An excess of this can bring about negative concerns such as hormone imbalances, inflammatory conditions, respiratory concerns, and cellular mutation.
 
Lipolysis is the process in which the body burns fat for weight loss or maintenance. In order to lower the percentage of adipose cells in the body, methods must be used the speed up lipolysis and slow down the formation of new fat cells!
 
Since adipose cells are used as the body’s storage mechanism, the key to not creating more adipose cells would be to limit the need for this storage. Lowering the intake of toxins through organic and natural body care options, home-made cleaners, and of course proper nutrition is the first step in that direction.
 
All calories consumed are converted to adipose cells if in excess, not just those high in fat content. Carbohydrates are necessary for the production of glucose and glycogen, extremely important for energy upkeep. Proteins are necessary for the production of glucose and body proteins such as collagen or muscle tissue. However, both of these will also be converted into our adipose cells if consumed in excess. Balancing nutrition with activity levels is absolutely vital to prevent the formation of more adipose cells.
 
An additional method to creating fewer adipose cells in the body, priming the metabolism to consume those same calories at a quicker rate to prevent storage.  Metabolism is the rate at which glucose, toxins, fats, and proteins are consumed. Healthy metabolism rates are based on insulin (a hormone produced in the pancreas) using the glycogen from proteins (stored in the muscle tissue) with the glucose from carbohydrates in the blood stream plus stored body fat for energy. Therefore, following a nutrition plan lower in carbohydrates aides the body in maintaining a healthy metabolism if the adipose tissues are not full of toxins. However, the average person has extremely high levels of toxins stored in their adipose cells, thereby preventing the deflation of these cells.
 
Toxins which are water-based will be filtered through the kidneys while toxins that are fat-based will be filtered in the liver. These fat-based toxins are then stored in the adipose cells if there is an excess of toxins that the liver can not process as quickly as needed to protect the body as a whole.  Once stored, these toxins are almost impossible to release due to the hardening of the outer cell membrane as a protective mechanism for the body.
 
Enter essential oils. Essential oils have the ability to aide and support the body at the cellular level. Due to the minute molecular structure of approximately 40,000,000,000 molecules per single drop, these gifts of the earth are able to penetrate the cellular membrane and have access directly into the cells within the body. Therefore, essential oils have the ability to support removing toxins out of the adipose tissue. Due to the potency of essential oils, usually 50-70 times the potency of its’ herbal counterpart, those toxins that are now released into the bloodstream can be neutralized and flushed out! Now the adipose tissue can be deflated of toxins.   
 
Particular essential oils are also able to help control appetite levels and promote positive mood, lowering Cortisol levels. Higher cortisol levels due to stress have been shown to increase the storage of the body’s excess in the adipose cells.
 
Which essential oils are most useful for this purpose?  Using a blend containing grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon essential oils such as DoTerra Slim N Sassy is most beneficial. This metabolic blend aides with extracting toxins out of the adipose cells, healthy insulin balance, healthy appetite responses, and overall positive mood. Use 2-3 drops of this blend in a glass water bottle, a few times daily to see the best results! Combine in blender:
 1 banana
 2 cups almond milk
 1 tbsp coconut oil
 1 avocado
 1/2 cup almond butter
 3 tbsp raw cocoa powder
 3 tbsp raw honey

Elderberry Syrup & Immune Function?

Cold and Flu season is definitely upon us! So far this season seems to be full of stomach bugs, sinus drainage, and coughs that just won't go away!  Let's elevate our immune systems so we do not have to miss time from work and school to recuperate. Remember, the thought is all about preventative health care. Our proven recommendation?
Adult - Daily:
2 On Guard essential oil soft gels
1 oz Elderberry Syrup

1 drop Frankincense essential oil on base of skull
1000 mg Liquid Vitamin C
5,000 iu Liquid Vitamin D

Fever - Use 2 drops each Peppermint and Lavender essential oils up and down the spine and on the soles of the feet in order to bring a fever back down to a healthy state
Congestion - Use 3 drops Breathe essential oil with 1 tsp coconut oil and rub onto chest to aide with loosening mucus in the chest or nasal cavities. Elderberry Syrup Instructions:

Place all ingredients except honey plus 6 cups room temperature filtered water in a sauce pan for 10 minutes. Turn the heat on; bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for approximately five minutes. Stir often and mash up the berries. Allow to sit overnight to steep into a good strength. Strain. Add the honey. The more honey that is added makes it more syrup like and sweet.  Label & store in an amber bottle or glass mason jar for up to 3 months in the refrigerator.  Take 2tsp every 2 hours for children and  2 oz every 2-3 hours for adults to heal or 1 oz daily to prevent illness.

Elder berries are known to be effective against 8 strains of influenza. In a clinical trial, 20% of subjects reported significant improvement of symptoms within 24 hours, 70% within 48 hours, & 90% claimed complete cure in 3 days.

Is there such a thing as healthy Chocolate?

So its Halloween time and chocolate is every where!  How do we keep ourselves from feeling deprived without giving in and tasting those sweet but devastating treats filled with processed sugar?  Make your own!  

Paleo chocolate is one of the easiest things you will ever make. It takes all of ten minutes and barely any supplies to sweet, creamy, satisfying chocolate that will light up your taste buds but not your inflammation!  How you say?

Ingredients
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1/2 cup high quality cocoa powder
1/2 cup smooth raw almond butter
1/4 cup raw honey
1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract
Melt the coconut oil.  Blend all ingredients together in a food processor or blender.  That easy!  Pour into desired molds.  These can be poured into silicone character molds and pop out looking just like the mold itself!  Or if short on molds, these can simply be poured into empty muffin liners in a muffin tin to yield chocolate cup style treats.  Place molds or muffin tin in freezer for 30 minutes and voila!  You have absolutely the best chocolate you will ever taste but with good -for - you protein from the almond butter, anti-bacterial properties of the honey, good fats from the coconut oil, and antioxidants from your raw cocoa powder. A treat you can feel good having!

Get creative!  Add other ingredients after pouring such as walnuts, almonds, shredded coconut, dried (unsulphured) fruit, cocoa nibs, and more.  The options are endless for making your own delightful creations!   I look forward to hearing about your new combinations below!  Enjoy!

Basic Nutrition Overview & Supplements Regimen

So you ask, "Alright, so what did you do and how did you eat?  What do I need to change?".  The easiest overall approach that I can give to each of you, would be to stick to a strict Paleo style diet but without the chicken and pork. The book "Against All Grain" by Danielle Walker should be your go-to guide with the additional recommendations in this post.  Eating this type of diet not only helps with weight loss and overall energy, but also massively lowers inflammation in the body. Why is this important?  Inflammation tends to be the root cause of most of our daily gripes and pains. Eliminate the inflammation and feel great!

The key?  Don't get overwhelmed!  Slowly change over your pantry and start switching meals.  Create meal plans each week so you are never caught hungry and in a hurry!  This method is not costly nor is it time consuming, but it does require pre-planning of your meals. I will try to list bi-weekly dinner ideas on this blog to help you along but you'll see that once you get on a roll, creativity will just flow into the pot!


  • First things first, find what is creating the inflammation for you individually?  Generally this must be found through elimination.  Rarely can a medical test detect what is causing inflammation unless it is life threatening severe.  Allergy tests are only as good as the histamine they detect and sensitivities that can wreck havoc on the body do not always release histamine.

    For all of us, items to consider are nutrition, body care products, cleaners, and over the counter medications. Anything we put on our bodies or consume that is not in its natural state will lead to an inflammatory response in the body, the body's form of self-protection. Please see other upcoming posts about healthy body care and cleaner options or come to one of our classes that detail these topics to learn first hand how to make your own! 

    A diet high in raw fruits and vegetables with the addition of high Omega 3 Fatty acid seafood, local honey, pure coconut products, nuts and seeds (including those “grains” that are actually seeds such as quinoa, millet, amaranth, and teff), extra virgin oils, herbal teas, turmeric, garlic, herbs, and ginger will bring immediate relief. 

    Eliminate all other foods from your diet for a minimum of six to eight weeks.  Do not eat any vegetables in the Solanaceae family including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant (see full list below) for the first four weeks.  Afterwards, add in one at a time and see how your body feels after a few days.  If some symptoms return do not add that food back into your diet.

    Do not consume under any circumstances:  wheat (gluten), corn, soy, dairy, dye, preservatives, sugar (anything deriving from sugar cane), caffeine, or chicken and pork (grass-fed beef, seafood, and all wild game are acceptable). Cook whole foods and be an ingredient checker!  

    Immune System function is also extremely important.  If your immune system is constantly bombarded with bad bacteria because there is not enough good bacteria in your system then it will be difficult for your body to heal.  A standard daily supplement regimen for anyone, adult or child should incorporate the following:

      Initially, as you eat per the above guidelines, the body will go through a detoxification process.  This can take anywhere from one to four weeks depending on the previous eating habits. Probiotics such as water kefir, PB Assist, and kombucha will aide in digestion and provide the intestinal flora needed to support detox and a healthy immune system. A detox tea such as Gaia Cleanse and Detox, should be consumed by 3-4 cups daily to help the body get rid of stored toxins for the first two weeks or so.  Also helpful, can be adding the Gaia Supreme Cleanse, Zendocrine essential oil, or an herbal detox tincture to help move the toxins out of your system quicker.  Just take it easy for the first few days especially! 

      For an anti-inflammatory treat in the summer heat, try mixing up a batch of this Lemonade.

      Ingredients:

      1 cup of Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice       1 Tbsp Ground Turmeric                     1 tsp Ground Ginger

      Pinch of Himalayan Pink Salt             ½ cup Honey or Maple Syrup              2 Quarts Filtered Water

      Mix together, refrigerate, and enjoy!  Makes a 2 quart pitcher.  Some ingredients may settle to the bottom so stir before serving.

    Ready to Start?
